The kindgarteners are practicing their phonics skills in STEM. Over the past few weeks, the kindergartens have learned about winter weather and made "fake" snow. This week and next, the classes will use the snow to practice writing words in phonics. They also practiced reading words with the phonics skills they are working on while using mini robots called Ozobots. The students coded the mini line following robots to travel from theword start to a word that was read aloud to them. Then they observed the robots follow the code line. When the robot reached each word they had to practice reading the words.

From the Desk of Superintendent, Jason C. Delcamp: Good afternoon Brocton Families, As many of you already know, the Supreme Court of Nassau County issued a Decision and Order that the New York State Health Code does not afford the Governor and/or the Commissioner of Health the authority to issue a statewide mask mandate. However, the Albany County Supreme Court issued a ruling to a contrary upholding the authority of the Governor and Department of Health. Shortly after this announcement was made public, the NYS Education Department issued a statement to all Superintendent's that the NYSDOH will likely appeal that decision by early Tuesday (January 25, 2022) morning. "Therefore, schools must continue to follow the mask rule." As of 8:45 this morning, the NYSDOH and the Attorney General have filed for a discretionary stay. We can expect some legal guidance for sure over the course of today. In order to minimize concerns caused by fluctuations in court rulings, Brocton will continue with its current masking procedures. As always, thank you for your understanding and patience while we work through each and every new hurdle created by Covid-19.
