
The kindergarten has been learning about force and motion. As part of this unit, they explored how speed affects force by programming Ozobots to bowl. They explored how the different color codes change the speed of the robot and how the speed affects how the bowling pins are knocked down.








The first graders participated in a distance learning project centered around the book The Mitten. After reading the book, the students identified one animal to write clues about. On February 7th and 8th, each class had a video conference with schools from Long Island and Roscoe, NY. The classes learned about each other's schools, communities, and then shared their clues in a guess the animal from the book game.



Mr. Galofaro's library classes and Mrs. Zappie's Media classes joined together to enjoy National Day of Play!










Yesterday evening, February 7th, at the Board of Education meeting, Mr. Delcamp recognized Kolton S. for being the February Middle School Student of the Month (pictured). Mr. Delcamp recognized Ethan Z. for being February High School Student of the Month (not pictured). Mr. Delcamp and Mr. Mead-Colegrove recognized Mrs. Linda Barnwell for being Employee of the Month for February (pictured). Congratulations to all of these individuals!



Tomorrow is P.S. I Love You Day. We are excited to see purple spread throughout our school to stand up against bullying, help end depression and ultimately end suicide. 200 schools nationwide will be participating! We are hopeful that more love, kindness and connectedness will bring our school together as a family. Don't forget to wear purple for us, wear purple for the silent battles we can't see.

This week the Brocton Central School District celebrates National School Counseling week. It is important to recognize those individuals who go above and beyond in their jobs, and Mrs. Fitzgerald is certainly one of those people.
Mrs. Fitzgerald has consistently demonstrated her commitment to helping students grow and succeed in all aspects of their lives. She is always available to lend an ear, offer guidance, and provide support in any way that she can. Her tireless efforts have made a significant impact on the lives of countless students and their families.

Registration packets for students eligible for PreK & Kindergarten can be obtained by calling the Elementary Office at (716) 792-2100. To be eligible for PreK, children must turn four (4) on or before December 1, 2024. To be eligible for Kindergarten, children must turn five (5) on or before December 1, 2024. When turning in your completed registration packet, a copy of your child’s birth certificate, documented immunization records and two proofs of residency are required.

Please keep a look out for the Gertrude Hawk Candy flier your child will be bringing home. This sale supports the Brocton Booster Club. The fundraiser will take place from January 20th through February 15th. Orders will be delivered the week of March 18th.


After listening to the story Newton and Me, a children's book on force and motion and how surfaces and incline affect speed, kindergarten learned more about force and motion through play. The students played games on different surfaces with a ball and then built devices to make a ball move faster or slower and change directions.






Earlier this week, the 4th and 5th graders who met their Successmaker personal reading goal celebrated with a STEM and Games party. Today and next week the first, second, and third graders who met their goal will also participate in a STEM and Games party.

Kindergarten started a unit on force and motion. The unit began with a story titled Ricky the Rock Can't Roll, where students explored and discussed why a rock may or may not roll. After they the story, they created their own inventions to help a flat piece of wood roll. Students using the engineering process to design and build the inventions, tested it on a cardboard ramp, and modified it as needed.
