On April 12, 2024 Brocton Central School District will participate in a “Purple Up! For Military Kids!” The hope is to fill the hallways with the color PURPLE in celebration of the month of the Military Child. April is the Month of the Military Child. Military-connected families make many sacrifices for the safety of our nation, including military-connected children during their experience throughout school. New York State is a member of the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3) School Districts country wide will conduct activities and wear purple to honor the crucial role that military children play and the challenges they face while their parents serve in our United States Military. MIC3 addresses the key educational transition issues encountered by military-connected students. Please join us in thanking and celebrating our Military-Connected Children for their strength and sacrifice by supporting “Purple Up!” throughout the month of April.

Miss Sobczyk's pre-k class intergarted literacy and play into STEM this week. After listening to the story Muncha, Muncha, Muncha, the students reinacted the story by building a fence for a garden to prevent their rabbit from eating the vegetables.

The first graders finished a STREAM (STEM with Reading and Art added) unit about animal traits. The first grade team work together to build an interdisciplinary STREAM unit that incorporated text and reading skills, drawing, crafting, robotics, coding, and the engineering process. The students' final project was to invent an animal with traits that help it in its habitat. They followed the engineering design process from brainstorming, planning, building a prototype out of Makerspace materials, and then constructing the final design out of Legos. They then learned to program their Lego animals using the WeDo Chromebook app. The first graders programmed their animals to move, change LED light colors, and make noise!
